Hey guys. The open kicks off in 11 days!!!
Every year we hear many excuses as why folks do not want to participate in the open. From not wanting waste the $20, they aren’t in shape for the open, they don’t have “insert skill”, asking why should the register if they already know they aren’t “good” and the list goes on.
The open is a great tool to help us determine our strengths and weaknesses. The open holds us accountable to movement standards, ensuring we train the basics and a reminder that goals matter. Whether you finish first or last, the open is a time to bring our community together. To support one another, to smash expectations, to overcome fear and to accomplish something we didn’t think was possible.
We will host our Friday night lights each week, starting October 11 from 5:30-8:30.
Week 2 is retro themed night, week 3 is country themed night and week 4 is Halloween themed. We will host a Halloween party as well. Week 5 we will host our open is closed party at Annie’s House following awards ceremony.
What’s different this year? We are going to place each person on a team. That team is going to create a team name, colors, etc., and you guys will help encourage and support each other thru the open. Each team will have a captain (coach) who will answer any questions, help strategize with you, manage expectations, set goals, create warm ups and help guide their team to victory.
The winning team, the team with the most points, after the five weeks wins a free team dinner and each member will receive a free 1 months membership.
How do you get points? The following is our scoring system.
+1 Point – Athletes will earn a point for completing the workout during the Friday Night Lights event. Athletes unable to make it, have until the following Monday 8pm est to complete the workout and log an official score.
+1 Point – Top 3: every male AND female member who places among the Top 3 at your gym for each workout. (Rx only) gets an extra point for their team.
+1 Point — Spirit of the Open (individual): We will be watching all athletes as they participate in the Open workout, both during their workout and before/after. Any athlete that found to be showing the true spirit of the Open (community, positivity etc) will be randomly be awarded a bonus point for their team!
+2 Points – for judging during Friday Night Lights.
+3 Points (Team) – Best Dressed: Weeks 2,3 and 4 will have a ‘theme’ for how to dress up. The athlete that gets voted best dressed earns an extra 3 points for their team!!
+5 Points (team) – Spirit: The team with the most noise, pride, and PRESENCE each week will receive 5 bonus points. We will be announcing “themes” for each week.
There are a few ways to sign up this fall.
- Register thru CrossFit @ open.crossfit.com . The cost is $20 and you will be officially ranked.
- We encourage you to sign up using our custom leaderboard. It’s free and you’ll only be ranked among those at Iron Forged.
Team captains will draw names next Monday and will contact you before the first workout is released.
